Richard Morton


Richard spent his early career working in European road, sea and air freight operations.

In 2011 Richard was appointed as Secretary-General of the European Port Community Systems Association EPCSA which in 2014 became International, IPCSA.  The Association provides a voice for electronic data interchange operators within the complete logistics sphere including air, sea, and land.   IPCSA, who’s global membership now operates in over 250 sea and airports handling the electronic exchange of information for an excess of 500 million TEUs and 8 billion tonnes of cargo.  This equates over electronic messages on an annual basis.

In his role as Secretary-General Richard works to support international organizations on Trade Facilitation including the UN, WCO, WTO, the European Commission, and the IMO.  He is also an expert for  UNCEFACT and is on the APEC Expert Council on eCommerce.

Standardisation of data has become one of the most talked about issues in the maritime industry, and it remains fundamental to port digitalization. Associations like the Digital Container Shipping Association (DCSA) and Terminal Industry Committee (TIC 4.0) are striding forward with the development of standards across the industry and how these fit with existing Applications and APIs is a crucial next step. This session will look at what progress has been made and how current technologies can be utilized to improve operational efficiencies.
